Antonio C. Alvillar of San Jose, AZ passed away on Thursday morning, May 28, 2026 at the age of 93 at his home with family by his side.
In 1895 the Alvillar family farm was established in San Jose Arizona. Our dad, "Tony" as he was known by all, was born in 1933 here is San Jose to Mariano & Felipa Alvillar. His work on the farm started at a young age and as he grew older he was more than just someone who worked the land he was also it's caretaker.
While riding a horse one day when he was in his 20's, he met a beautiful girl from Morenci who was visiting her aunt in San Jose. Tony married the love of his life, Alice "Licha" Moreno on December 28, 1956 in Clifton, Arizona and again through the Catholic Church in San Manuel, AZ on January 16, 1959. They were married for over 69 years.
They started their life together in Pasadena, CA while Tony was serving in the military at Ft. MacArthur. After Tony was honorably discharged from the Army, active duty and reserve, they moved to San Manuel where he was working for the Magma Copper Mine Company. They later returned to San Jose where they lived & worked side by side for 65 years growing & harvesting cotton on the family farm all while raising 3 children.
Throughout their youth & old age together, they also managed to make time to run errands, fit in doctor appointments, do handy work, babysit, and bake fresh empanadas de membrillo for their friends and family. They helped many during their lifetime. But it wasn't all work, they had many adventures together on road trips to Eagle Creek, the PBar, Luna Lake, Big Lake, Hannagan Meadow, Mount Graham and the Bonito. A combined life of 184 years, they lived every minute of their lives to the fullest with God, Jesus and our beloved Virgin Mary to guide them.
On December 7, 2025 at the age of 91, Licha passed away leaving Tony with a heavy heart.
Tony is survived by his children: Barbara Alvillar (Jose Sosa), Martin (Toni) Alvillar, and Lena Alvillar, his siblings Virginia Figueroa, Maria Luisa Baca, and Carolina Moreno along with 3 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren. Tony is preceded in death by his loving wife Alice "Licha" M. Alvillar, his parents Mariano & Felipa Alvillar, and his grand-daughters LaTora & LaNita Turner.
Services for Tony will be held on Friday, June 5th at the San Jose Mission beginning with the viewing at 8:30, the eulogy at 9:00 a.m., the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the San Jose Cemetery following services.
Our memories will hold his love for cartoons, Ancient Aliens, the Weather Channel, welding, sweets, riding his 4-wheeler & tractor, and his complete devotion & generosity to his family.
Always & Forever in our hearts.
