Barbara Tandyk

March 11, 1938 — July 19, 2025

Barbara Tandyk, a remarkable woman known for her unwavering spirit and dedication to serving others, passed away on July 19, 2025, in Solomon, Arizona, at the age of 87. Born on March 11, 1938, in Gary, Indiana, Barbara's life was shaped by resilience and love, as she faced challenges with an inspiring grace that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

From a young age, Barbara exhibited a zest for life that was both infectious and uplifting. At only 13 years old, she contracted polio, a battle that confined her to a board for an entire year. Yet, even this hardship could not dim her indomitable spirit. Barbara not only overcame the illness but excelled academically, completing all four years of high school during that time. Following her graduation, she began working at her father’s car lot, laying the foundation for a hardworking and dedicated career.

Professionally, Barbara spent years as an engraver for Motorola, contributing her craft with precision and artistry while continuing to create beautiful memories for those around her. Her dedication was not limited to her profession; she was a big advocate for children, dedicating much of her life to ensuring their voices were heard and their needs met.

In 1972, Barbara married John Ken Tandyk in Phoenix, Arizona, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that enriched her life deeply. Together they created a family that has continued to shine brightly through the legacy of kindness and support she fostered.

Barbara's hobbies ranged from art to gardening, reflecting her passion for creativity and nature. In her community, she was a beloved member of the Red Hat Society, where her vibrant personality and enthusiasm were always a source of joy. Furthermore, her courageous spirit saw her serving on the Search & Rescue team, being a part of the Honor Guard, and proudly standing with the VFW/American Legion, accomplishments that she held dear in her heart.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward: her daughters Debra Sue Congdon, Shirley Ann Tuggle, Loretta Mae Ramos, Glenda Arlene Kincaid, and the late Teresa Renee Blystra; her brother Paul Barden; as well as a cherished lineage of 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, John Ken Tandyk; her parents, Oscar Paul Barden and Alberta Mae Trump; and her siblings Iris, Diane, and Judy. Each of these individuals played a significant role in her life, and their memories remain intertwined with her own.

As we remember Barbara Tandyk, we celebrate not just the life she lived, but the impact she had on this world—a beacon of service, love, and resilience. Her legacy will forever inspire us to be present for others and to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. The world is quieter without her laughter and compassion, but her spirit lives on in the lives she touched, the children she championed, and the family she so dearly loved.
