Craig Anson Winnie, age 61, of Safford, Arizona passed away unexpectedly on Sunday,
February 18, 2024.
Born to Ray Winnie and Rosemary Mellema on May 10, 1962 in Greenville, Michigan, Craig came into this world with a zest for life. He was an adventurous soul who lived life to the fullest until his last day here. Craig’s positive energy and loud boisterous laughter were contagious. His laugh was one of a kind and he was often known to laugh at his own classic Dad jokes. Craig was a man of many talents, from building houses to building bikes. He owned multiple businesses throughout his time and took pride in all of them. Sunset Cabins in Grand Marais, MI is where he called home for the majority of his life with his two daughters. Although running a business, Craig managed to spend most of his time with his daughters and being outdoors. He had a love for running, mountain biking, traveling, hiking, and paddle boarding. The only thing he loved more than the outdoors are his two daughters and five grandchildren. While visiting Michigan last summer, Craig and his two oldest grandsons rode over 75 miles in 2 days on bikes, it was an adventure he couldn't stop talking about for weeks. Another highlight of that trip to Michigan was the birth of his newest grandson and underestimating how quickly his 2 year old grandson could reprogram his smartwatch. Craig and his granddaughter shared a love for pranking each other, Grandpa “Egg” was witty but she always had to have the last joke. He looked forward to his summers in Michigan where he’d spend his time creating all sorts of memories with family. Craig was the best person, father, grandpa, and friend you could ask for. He was always the calm amidst any storm and will be greatly missed by many.
Craig is survived by his children, Stormi Winnie and Rachael (Phil) Coffey; grandchildren Jaxon, Rex, and Cora Coffey, Oliver and Emmett Karns; parents, Rosemary Mellema, Ray and Joyce Winnie; siblings, Roxanne (Dan) Mier, Steve (Lisa) Winnie, Rick Thomas, Kim (Ed) Raths, and Randy Mellema; and several nieces and nephews.
Craig was preceded in death by nephew, Daniel Mier; and grandparents, George and Roleen
Shindorf, Charles and Goldie Winnie.
A celebration of Craig’s life is being planned for a later date in Greenville, MI.
