David Rios, affectionately known to all as "Rambo," passed away on October 22, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Safford, Arizona. Born on July 21, 1962, David lived a life full of adventure and joy, culminating in a cherished career as a Heavy Equipment Operator at the Phelps Dodge Mine, from which he eventually retired.
David was a proud graduate of Safford High School, class of 1981. From a young age, he was known for his kind spirit and infectious smile, which brightened the days of everyone around him. His warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Beyond his professional endeavors, David found immense joy in his hobbies. He loved hunting, fishing, and horseback riding, activities that allowed him to connect deeply with nature and make lasting memories.
David's proudest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted father to Cera Rios and John Cordova, David Rios Jr. and a doting grandfather to Ryan Cordova, Eliyah Rios, Jerimiah Tracy, Jayden Escabar, Joseyph Blake, and Arianna Cordova. His love for them knew no bounds, and he dedicated his life to nurturing and supporting them. Along with his life companion Mitzi Trujillo, who brought immense joy and love to his life.
In addition to his immediate family, David was surrounded by a loving and supportive group of siblings, including Christine Rios, Mary (John) Zepeda, Andy Rios, Liz Dominguez, Louisa Cabrera, and Faustino Rios, Virginia (Grover) George and Rayme (Romulo) Compos, as well as Angela (Shane) Rios, who brought joy and companionship into his life.
David’s legacy will be carried on by those he leaves behind, who remember him not only for his hard work and dedication but also for his kindness and the joy he brought into their lives.
Family and friends are invited to honor his memory at McDougal Caldwell Funeral Chapel in Safford, AZ. A viewing will be held on November 4, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a Rosary at 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and Mass at 11:45 in the St. Rose Lima Church. There will be a luncheon held at St. Rose Lima Perish Hall
Though David has departed this world, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and the many friends he made throughout his life. He will be profoundly missed, yet forever remembered as a beacon of love and kindness.
