Dempsey Bylas, Sr. was born on April 7, 1937, in Bylas, Arizona, and peacefully passed away in the same town on October 7, 2025. He was a dedicated individual who contributed significantly to his community and cherished family.
Dempsey graduated with the class of 1956 from East Fork Lutheran High School in East Fork, Arizona. His commitment to service was evident when he joined the U.S. Army in Dallas, Texas, in 1959, where he earned a rifle marksmanship medal before being honorably discharged from Transfer Point Fort Ord, California, in 1965.
His professional life was marked by his tenure as a Supervisor for the Mt. Turnbull Sanitation Department, where he was known for his unwavering dedication and strong work ethic. Beyond his career, Dempsey enjoyed various hobbies, including welding, handyman projects, and mechanics, demonstrating his diverse skills and interests.
One of his proudest accomplishments was marrying the love of his life, Martha Duryea Bylas, on May 10, 1966, in Bylas, Arizona. Their union was filled with love and joy until her passing.
Dempsey is survived by his beloved children: Anna (Chat) Goseyun, Sandy (Al) Karnopp, Danny Bylas, Dempsey Bylas, Jr., Melissa (Gregory) Peaches, Marthalin Bylas, and Garrett (Maybeline) Bylas. He also doted on his 27 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy along with his sister Elesta (Gary) Morrison.
He is preceded in death by his spouse Martha Duryea Bylas; his father George Bylas; his mother Edna Wright Goseyun; and his siblings, including Nugent Bylas, Glenn Bylas, Izadora Bylas Banashley, and Angelina Goseyun Nozie, and Victoria Goseyun Rambler.
The only viewing will be held at the Dempsey residence, located at 24 Rope Drive, Bylas, AZ, on October 17, 2025, from 5:00 AM to 9:30 AM, no viewing will not be held at the church. A Funeral Service will follow at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, located at 295 U.S. 70, Bylas, AZ, on the same day, starting at 10:00 AM. Dempsey will be laid to rest at a burial service commencing at 12:00 PM at the Bylas Veteran's Cemetery.
Dempsey Bylas, Sr.'s dedication to his family and community will not be forgotten. His remarkable spirit and hard work have left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege to know him.
