With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Donald Claire Smith, who departed this world on June 30, 2026, in Thatcher, Arizona. Born on March 17, 1952, in Morenci, Arizona, Donald’s journey was marked by kindness, perseverance, and profound devotion to family and friends.
Donald was the beloved son of Frances C. Smith, Jr. and Donna Packer Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his brother Richard, whose memory remained etched in Donald’s heart throughout his life.
Those left to cherish Donald’s legacy are many, and their love for him speaks volumes about the man he was. His wife, Frances “Pete” Smith, stood steadfast by his side, sharing decades filled with laughter, challenges, and unwavering partnership. Donald is also survived by his cherished daughters, Kristi Dawn Smith and Randi Lynne (Chase) Fite, who carry forward his values, wit, and warmth in their daily lives.
Family was the cornerstone of Donald’s world. He is remembered dearly by his brothers Steve (Jolene) Smith & Charlie (Phyllis) Smith, as well as by his step-brothers Rod (Virginia) Lunt, Brent (Joan) Lunt, and Dan (Janet) Lunt. Together they experienced a tapestry of memories—of childhood adventures, heartfelt conversations, and bonds that time only strengthened.
Donald’s influence shines brightly through his grandchildren, Anita, Anessa, Shauni (Jake) Jarvis, and Sydney (Justen) Bingham, as well as great-grandchildren Lincoln, and Amare, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy and pride. His presence will forever echo in their milestones and cherished family moments. Donald’s spirit of inclusion and friendship extended to his dog Chester and all those fortunate enough to know him.
Throughout his life, Donald inspired those around him with his gentle wisdom and easy smile. He leaves a legacy of love that has touched many and will never be forgotten.
Though our hearts ache with his absence, we find comfort in the memories, traditions, and kindnesses Donald so freely gave. He loved hiking, cooking, camping, farming, and outdoor activities. Don & Pete shared a long, loving marriage and loved traveling together. His was a life marked by deep affection, quiet strength, and a steadfast commitment to those he loved.
In honoring Donald Claire Smith, we invite all who knew and loved him to reflect on the indelible impressions he made upon their hearts. May his memory be a blessing and his legacy a guiding light for generations to come.
