Dwayne E. Nicholas, born on April 26, 1983, in Bisbee, Arizona, passed away on July 17, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona, leaving behind an enduring legacy of kindness, positivity, and love. His life was one that touched many, full of moments that brightened the days of everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Dwayne grew up in the close-knit community of Playas, New Mexico, where he made joyful memories from 1985 until 1999 when his family relocated to Morenci. There, he attended Morenci High School, graduating with the Class of 2001. Dwayne’s connection to his hometowns and the friends he made along the way was one of unwavering warmth and sincerity, the kind that makes a lifelong impression.

He began a dedicated career with the Easter Seals Blake Foundation in 2008 and remained a beloved part of their family for the rest of his life. His work was not just a job but a calling—he thrived among friends and colleagues at Main Street Cafe and the Ceramic Shop in Safford, before moving to Morenci where he found joy working at Cup & Cone as well as the fitness center. Known for his contagious enthusiasm and cheerfulness at work, Dwayne inspired others simply by being himself. Every day, his colleagues were greeted by his beaming smile, infectious laughter, and unfaltering positive spirit.

Outside of work, Dwayne found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid bowler, a movie lover, and, above all, someone who cherished the camaraderie of shared activity. He never missed an opportunity to arm wrestle anyone who would take him on—a small but endearing glimpse into his playful, competitive spirit.

Dwayne’s true gift was his genuine nature. Humble, kind, loving, and witty, he could make anyone smile. To meet Dwayne was to be uplifted; he had an uncanny ability to put anyone into a happy, good mood. His positive attitude in every situation was both remarkable and rare, making every gathering warmer, every challenge lighter, and every relationship deeper.

The sense of loss felt by his family is immense. Dwayne is survived by his loving father, Mark Nicholas, and devoted mother, Susan Nicholas, both of whom he treasured dearly. Preceding him in death are his brother, Kenny Nicholas, his beloved aunt, Kathy Watters, his grandmother Katie Watters, his grandfather William Nicholas, and his uncle William Nicholas Jr. Dwayne’s memory will be held close in their hearts, forever a source of comfort and pride.

A Celebration of Life honoring Dwayne will be held on August 15, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at McDougal Caldwell Funeral Chapel, 112 East Main Street, Safford, AZ 85546. All whose lives were touched by Dwayne are welcome to gather in remembrance of a soul whose presence made the world a gentler, happier place.

Though Dwayne is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the laughter he sparked, the kindness he showed, and the joy he generously brought to every day. His family and all who loved him will cherish his memory always.
