Emilio T. Romero, affectionately known as "E.T.," left this world on January 18, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 84. Born on February 12, 1941, in Bayard, New Mexico. Emilio was a proud miner at the Phelps Dodge Copper Mine, a role he embraced with unwavering dedication and a strong work ethic that he instilled in those around him.
Emilio’s journey began at Thatcher High School in Thatcher, Arizona, where he laid the foundation for an inquisitive mind. He later pursued some college education at Eastern Arizona College, focusing on woodworking, which became one of his many passions. His hands were always busy, whether he was undertaking household fixes, embarking on little projects, or crafting in the wood shop.
Throughout his life, Emilio was known for his friendly demeanor and his exceptional ability to connect with others; he was a local jokester who found joy in making those around him smile. His warmth and wise words resonated deeply within the hearts of his family and friends. He was blunt when it mattered, always encouraging everyone to do the right thing. Emilio fostered a family-oriented life, forever championing the dreams of his beloved wife, Rosa, and their children and grandchildren.
Rosa Romero, his cherished companion, stands by his side, having shared many years of laughter and love since they married at St. Rosa of Lima Church on July 20, 1963, in Safford, Arizona. Together, they built a legacy centered on family values, adventure, and generosity. Emilio had an insatiable love for travel; he encouraged his children, Audrey and Tony, along with his grandchildren, to see the beauty of the world and embrace new experiences.
His home was a gathering place filled with warmth, laughter, and the delightful aromas of his culinary adventures. His hobbies included camping under the stars, going yard selling, and cherishing every opportunity to share good food with family. The memories of his iconic quotes, including his heartfelt favorite—"May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for everyone else, just as ours does for you"—will forever echo in the lives he touched.
Emilio leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rosa; his daughter, Audrey; his son, Tony, and his wife, Julie; along with eight adoring grandchildren and over ten great-grandchildren.
Emilio was predeceased by his parents, Isodore and Juanita Romero, and his siblings: Pat, Sam, Frank, Hilario, and Eleanor. The loss of his son, Emilio Romero Jr., and his grandson, Nick Arevalo, weighs heavily on the hearts of those who remain, yet his legacy will endure through the lives he enriched.
As we mourn the departure of Emilio, we also celebrate a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Through his family, his spirit will continue to inspire, reminding us all to embrace life, share love generously, and thrive in the moments we create together. Rest in peace, Emilio T. Romero. Your journey may have come to an end, but your light will shine on in the hearts of all who loved you.
