York, Arizona

Frederick E. Austin, a beloved teacher, minister and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, in Duncan, Arizona, at the age of 83. Born on January 22, 1942, in Sulphur, Oklahoma, Frederick lived a life rich with experiences and connections that shaped him into the warm and engaging person he was known to be.

Frederick dedicated his life to service—first in the United States Army, where he proudly served as a Special Forces SSGT E6 from 1964 to 1970. His military service imbued him with a sense of discipline and camaraderie that followed him throughout his life. After returning home, he pursued a career in education and ministry, devoting himself to teaching and preaching. His love for learning and sharing knowledge inspired countless students and parishioners alike.

Frederick's personal life was equally filled with joy and love. On June 9, 1970, he married the love of his life, Susan Austin, in Thailand—a union that ultimately flourished into a beautiful family. Frederick took great pride in his two sons, Joshua (Divine) Austin and Ben (LeTanya) Austin, who carry forward his values and passions. The joy of nurturing his family expanded further as he became a doting grandfather to six grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness and laughter.

Known for his engaging personality, Frederick loved to talk and joke, leaving an imprint of warmth on everyone he met. He was an active member of the Sunset Church of Christ in Morenci, Arizona, where his kindness and wisdom were felt by many. Alongside his church involvement, Frederick found camaraderie in the American Legion, a testament to his enduring commitment to community and service.

Frederick’s interests mirrored his zest for life; he loved to travel, camp, hunt, and create things, ever eager to learn and explore new horizons. His adventurous spirit and creative mind brought a sense of thrill to every endeavor, whether it was planning a family camping trip or crafting personal treasures.

Frederick is survived by his loving wife Susan; his devoted sons, Joshua (Divine) and Benjamin (LeTanya); and his six adoring grandchildren who were the lights of his life. He is also remembered fondly by his sister, Babara (Walt) Mazur. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ellen Austin, and his brother Philip Austin.

The celebration of Frederick's life will be held at the Sunset Church of Christ in Morenci, Arizona, on November 22, 2025, starting at 2:00 PM with services concluding at 3:00 PM. As we remember Frederick E. Austin, we celebrate a man who loved deeply, laughed heartily, and lived a life devoted to faith, family, and community.
