Obituary

Fredrick Jones Sr., also known as Sonny Boy, was born on January 1, 1950 in San Carlos Arizona. Sonny Boy’s mother was Sylvia Jones-Tsosie from Gilson Wash. His father was the late Samuel Harris of Peridot, Arizona. Sonny Boy was the oldest of his mother’s children. Sonny Boy’s mother’s children included Theodore Rustin of Peridot, the late Shirley Titla of Bylas, the late Melvin Rustin Jr. of Bylas, the late Melva Rustin of Phoenix, AZ and Erma Jean Tsosie of Gilson Wash.

When Sonny Boy was a child, he grew up in the Gilson Wash district, on what is currently called Araviapa Road, near the rail road tracks. Sonny Boy’s grandmother, Jessie Jones, raised him until he graduated high school.

After high school, Sonny Boy met Joan Key. He had three children with Ms. Key. The late Samuel Jones also known as Chammy who served in the Army, David Jones, also served in the Army, and the late Jessie Jones, known by Gola to everyone. The family he started resided in the Peridot District.

Upon completing high school, Sonny Boy began a career in law enforcement. He was a dispatcher for San Carlos Police department for many years. While a dispatcher, he often stayed with his sister Shirley in Bylas. This is the time when he met his wife, Florine Preston – Jones. Sonny Boy and Florine Preston married in Bylas, AZ. They had five children together. Tina Jones, the twins Freddy and Sonny, Tommy Jones, and Fredrick Jones Jr, also known as Pumpkin. Sonny Boy and Tina had built their life in Bylas, Arizona. 

He continued to work as a San Carlos Police dispatcher for 16 years until his health started to decline. Tina Jones was a home maker and attended church services and functions faithfully throughout her life. They built a Christian home and taught their family Christian values.  

Fredrick Jones is survived by his wife, Florine Tina Jones, his sons David Jones, Tommy Jones and Fredrick Jones Jr, pumpkin, and 13 grandchildren who he loved.

Services will begin with a Wake on Friday, August 21st at 4:00 p.m. at the Jones residence.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22nd at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Bylas beginning at 10:00 a.m. with interment in the Black Point Cemetery.
