Gregorio Tellez, a cherished member of the Morenci community, quietly passed away in Tucson, Arizona on May 10, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Morenci, Arizona on July 31, 1931, Gregorio lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep faith in God.
After graduating from Morenci High School, Gregorio proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Army, where he honorably served at Ft. Huachuca. Following his military service, he returned to Morenci, where he embarked on a fulfilling career that saw him work his way up to become a Journeyman Boilermaker with Phelps Dodge mine until his retirement. He later found joy in serving as a bus driver for the Clifton schools and as a bank mail carrier, always bringing a friendly smile to those he encountered.
Gregorio's life was one marked by love and devotion. He married his beloved Jeanette Martinez on January 26, 1957, a union that brought forth a legacy of love. Gregorio took immense pleasure in being surrounded by family, and his heart swelled with pride when it came to his children, Greg, Nicolas, Veronica, and MaryAnn, along with his seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His family was always the center of his world, and he cherished each moment spent with them.
Known for his lighthearted spirit, Gregorio found joy in the simple pleasures of life. One of his favorite pastimes was going to the movies, where he cared little about what was playing, as long as he had his beloved buttered popcorn and a soda by his side. His vibrant personality and infectious laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Gregorio is survived by his devoted children, Greg, Nicolas, Veronica (Ronnie), and MaryAnn (Rob), along with his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette Martinez Tellez, and his parents, Jesus and Maria Duran Tellez.
As we prepare to honor Gregorio's remarkable life, family and friends are invited to gather for the Rosary on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morenci at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM. He will then be lovingly laid to rest at Bunker Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
Gregorio Tellez will be forever remembered for his unwavering faith, love for his family, and the laughter he brought to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence will be sorely missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
