Janice Cornett Broadhead

Janice Cornett Broadhead, a beloved mother, grandmother, and teacher, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Duncan, Arizona. Born on March 9, 1940, in Long Beach, California, Janice was a woman of remarkable strength and independence, dedicating her life not only to her family but also to the education of children with special needs.

A proud graduate of Reseda High School in 1958, Janice pursued her passion for teaching, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Brigham Young University in 1976. Her career as a special education teacher reflected her unwavering dedication to making a difference in the lives of her students. She retired after many years of service, but the positive impact she made in educational circles continued to resonate long after.

Throughout her life, Janice's family was her pride and joy. She raised four children—Joy Billingsley (Charlie), Janell Richins (Don), Lyle Broadhead, and the late LeRay Broadhead—while simultaneously advancing her own education. Her fierce independence and intelligent spirit were coupled with a warm heart and a loving nature. Friends and family fondly recall Janice as a woman who loved the outdoors, thrived on her farm, cultivated beautiful gardens, and cherished her love of animals, particularly horses, which she shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Janice was an avid reader who found comfort and joy in every page she turned, and she enjoyed crocheting in her moments of leisure. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with hobbies and interests that brought joy not only to herself but also to those fortunate enough to bask in her company.

She was also blessed with a robust family tree, leaving behind 29 grandchildren and over a hundred great-grandchildren, with too many great-great-grandchildren to count. Blessed and fondly remembered by her late family members, including her father Jack Cornett, mother Marion Bollschweiler, brother Eugene Cornett, and sister Karen Campagna, Janice's legacy is one of love, perseverance, and educational excellence.

Janice Cornett Broadhead’s graveside service will be held on May 30, 2025, 10:00 am, at Virden Cemetery in Virden, New Mexico, where friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of her life and spirit. Her strength, independence, and profound love for her family will continue to inspire all who knew her.
