Jose Miguel Garcia

November 8, 1955 — April 6, 2026

Safford, Arizona

Jose Miguel Garcia, lovingly known by many as "Totoi," passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Safford, Arizona. Born on November 8, 1955, in Juarez, Mexico, Jose lived a life marked by quiet dignity, deep respect, and unwavering love for his family.

Jose’s journey began in the vibrant city of El Paso, Texas at the age of 5, where he was nurtured by his mother Micaela Berber, who has departed. Growing up surrounded by siblings—some of whom have also passed before him, including his brother Leonardo Garcia—Jose developed a gentle and introspective nature. Always very respectful and quiet, he kept to himself but carried a beautiful smile that could brighten any room and touched the hearts of those around him.

In 1975, Jose graduated from Bowie High School in El Paso, Texas, a milestone that expanded his horizons and prepared him for the next chapter. His proudest accomplishment was serving in the United States Army from 1976 to 1978, during which he was stationed overseas in Germany. This period of service was a defining and honorable time in his life, exemplifying his dedication and resilience.

A man of simple pleasures, Jose found joy in the warmth of vinyl records filling his home with music, a hobby that brought him solace and happiness. He cherished celebrations, especially his birthday, relishing these moments of connection with loved ones. Despite being quiet, he always got along well with others, his kindness quietly weaving through every interaction.

Jose's life was a testament to devotion—he loved his family deeply. He is survived by his sisters Maria Santos Diaz and Micaela Garcia, his brothers Cornelio Garcia, Isaac Garcia, Juan Garcia, and Evaristo Berber, as well as several nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward in their hearts. These surviving family members remember him not only as a beloved brother and uncle but as a man whose presence quietly enriched their lives.

Family and friends are invited to honor Jose’s life and legacy at the McDougal Caldwell Funeral Chapel in Safford, Arizona. Viewing services will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and again on Friday, April 17, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The funeral service will take place on April 17 at 10:00 AM at the same location, followed by the burial at Thatcher Cemetery in Thatcher, Arizona, commencing at 11:00 AM.

Jose Miguel Garcia will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, sincere respect, and enduring love. Though he kept to himself, his beautiful smile and kind spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew the gentle soul behind the nickname "Totoi." Rest in peace, dear Jose. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of your family and friends.
