With deep sorrow and heartfelt reverence, we announce the passing of Josephine J. Williams, a beloved Community Health Representative and spiritual matriarch, who peacefully departed this life on June 8, 2026, in Peridot, Arizona. Born on March 23, 1944, in San Carlos, Arizona, Josephine's life was marked by humility, kindness, and a steadfast devotion to her faith and family.
Josephine was a God-fearing woman whose gentle spirit and caring nature touched all who knew her. She was well-known throughout the San Carlos Reservation and its neighboring communities as a talented seamstress, using her skill lovingly to serve her family and many tribal members. Her favorite saying, "Don't forget to pray," was a reflection of her deep spirituality and the grace she carried with her each day. Josephine was a beacon of prayerful strength, revered as the spiritual heart of her family.
Her educational journey took her through East Fork Lutheran High School and Dr. Martin Lutheran College, foundations that supported her lifelong commitment to service and community. Among her proudest accomplishments were the births of her children and grandchildren, the legacy she cherished above all else, and her well-earned retirement marking years of devoted professional work and personal sacrifice.
Josephine leaves behind a cherished family who will carry her memory forward with love: her daughters, Marietia (Robert) Johnson and Shella Palmer; her brothers, Steve Aday, Larold (Sally) Aday, and Honston (Carol) Aday; her sister, Jovita Aday; as well as four grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Their lives were profoundly enriched by her presence, guidance, and unfailing support.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rafuel Williams; her parents, Charles and Phoebe Aday; and her siblings, Pearlita Asnkie, Adalien Antonio, Geraldine Steavne, and Vicky Aday, whose memories she held close.
Josephine’s life will be honored beginning with a viewing on June 15, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Peridot Lutheran Church, AZ-170, Peridot, Arizona. This will be followed immediately by a funeral service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., she will be laid to rest at Six Mile on Coolidge Dam Road / Six Mile Road in Peridot.
As we bid farewell to Josephine J. Williams, we hold tight to the example she set: humble yet strong, gentle yet enduring, always anchored in faith and love. Her legacy endures in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her — a true matriarch and treasured friend whose prayers and kindness will forever echo across the lives she touched.
