Lucy Lujan Sanchez

April 18, 1933 — September 6, 2025

Safford, Arizona

Lucy Lujan Sanchez, a cherished housewife known for her unwavering love and nurturing spirit, departed this world on September 6, 2025, in Safford, Arizona. Born on April 18, 1933, in Clifton, Arizona, Lucy embodied grace and warmth, leaving a lasting mark on all who had the honor of knowing her.

Lucy was not just a homemaker; she was the heart of her family. She dedicated her life to raising her children, nurturing them with love and values that they carry to this day. Lucy was married to her soulmate, Juvenal Sanchez, for an incredible 72 years, a testament to their profound bond and mutual respect. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, support, and an abundance of love.

As a mother, her kindness knew no bounds. She made every holiday special, infusing them with joy and love that resonated within the hearts of her children, Eduardo, Teresa, and Elizbeth. Lucy was the person who felt like home—a loving presence always ready to welcome anyone in need with open arms. Despite her reluctant culinary skills, friends and family relished her home-cooked meals, which were seasoned with the essence of love she so generously shared.

In addition to her role as a devoted mother, Lucy's vivacious personality was marked by a quick wit, a spunky nature, and a calm demeanor that made her an inspiration to those around her. Her love for God was evident in her daily life, whether she was going to church or sharing moments of joy with her 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, whose lives were profoundly enriched by her presence.

Lucy took pleasure in life's simple joys, whether it was tending to her garden, trying her luck at the casino, or scratching lottery tickets—a pastime she enjoyed despite knowing the odds. Her spirited, humorous approach brought lightness to everyday life.

Lucy is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Leoner Loya; her father, Eugenio Rivas; her son, Matthew Sanchez; and her brother, Frank Lujan. Each of these losses weighed heavily on her heart, but they also shaped the resilient and loving character she became.

As we gather to celebrate her remarkable life, we invite you to join us for a Rosary service at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Safford, AZ, on September 15, 2025, at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM. A graveside service will take place at Sanchez Cemetery at 12:00 PM.

Lucy’s favorite quote, "But only farewell until you get here," encapsulates her belief in love that endures beyond this life. Though Lucy has left this world, she remains forever in our hearts, her spirit a guiding light that will continue to envelop her family and friends. She was loving, funny, spicy, and always ours, a true testament to the love one person can share with the world.
