It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Manuel Merrit DeClay, affectionately known to all who knew him as "Manny". A resident of Tempe, Arizona, Manuel was born in Phoenix on November 26, 1992, and passed away on February 16, 2026.
Manuel was a proud graduate of San Carlos High School, class of 2011. Following graduation, he attended South Mountain Community College before entering the workforce in 2012. He built a career where his personality could truly shine, becoming exceptionally successful in customer service. His professional success was no surprise to those who knew him, as he was a naturally encouraging and enthusiastic person who made everyone feel welcome.
More than his accomplishments, Manuel will be remembered for his beautiful character. He was a loving, kind, and generous person who was almost always seen with a warm smile on his face. He possessed a creative spirit and loved to read, write, and cook. An adventurer at heart, Manuel enjoyed hiking and traveling, but his favorite pastime was simply being with the people he loved. He cherished his family and friends deeply, holding a particularly special bond with his niece, Kaley, and nephew, Liam. He loved their sleepovers and the joy they brought to his life.
Manuel is survived by his parents, Marla Steele and Patrick Steele, Jr. He will be forever remembered by his sisters, Auralia Steele, Sosha Zotigh, and Myah Steele, as well as his brother Uriah Steele.
Services to honor Manny's life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in San Carlos, Arizona. A viewing will begin at 7:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. After the service, friends and family are invited to join for a lunch in the parish hall to share stories and memories.
Plant a tree for you and me it will grow tall, just you wait and see.
To the tree, we'll be as small as a mouse. While the tree is as big as a house....
And all you have to do to see, is plant a tree for you and me.
-Manuel
