Mary D. Sanchez

Mary D. Sanchez, age 77, of San Jose, Arizona, passed away on May 9, 2025, in Safford, Arizona, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on September 8, 1947, in Morenci, Arizona, to Elisa Gomez and Donato Delgado. Mary grew up in Morenci and lived in San Jose, Arizona, for the remainder of her life. Mary married Robert Sanchez on February 11, 1965, in Safford. She worked as a kitchen supervisor at the Graham Unit, where she dedicated many years of service before retiring. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mary was a strong and courageous woman. She faced multiple battles with cancer throughout her life and fought hard time and again with remarkable strength and resilience. Despite these challenges, she lived a full and beautiful life surrounded by family. One of her favorite places to be was at the Bonito with her loved ones, cherishing time spent outdoors and creating lifelong memories. 

She is survived by her husband, Robert Sanchez; daughters, Rachel Sanchez, Veronica (Albert) Mendez and; siblings, brothers: Juan, Donato Jr., Jose, and Steve; and sisters: Elisa, Virginia, and Julie. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren: Anthony, Eduardo, Emma, Esaynia (Jake), Hanna (Dawson), Jacob (Corina), Jazmine, Joseph, Julian, Mariah, Mark, Martin, Robert, and Tony — as well as 24 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Donato Delgado and Elisa Gomez; stepmother, Lupe Delgado; sons, Robert Sanchez, Robert Sanchez Jr., and Anthony Sanchez; grandson, Gilbert Gabriel Villescas; and siblings: Delia, Locario, Sylvia, Irma, Lucy, and Francisca.

Mary will be remembered for her strength, faith, and deep love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Services for Mary will be held at a later date, in accordance with her wishes, following the passing of her beloved husband, Robert.
