A graduate of Lewiston High School in 1995, Matthew embarked on a career as a welder, where his hardworking nature and passion for creation were evident in every project he undertook. He was not just a craftsman of steel, but also a master in the kitchen, whipping up delicious meals that brought joy to family gatherings. His laughter echoed through homes, his love for life shaping memories treasured by those fortunate enough to know him.
Throughout his life, Matthew embodied the essence of joy and camaraderie, living by the spirited phrases, “Hang loose,” “Fish on,” and “Girls just wanna have fun.” He was the kind of person who turned everyday moments into celebrations, whether through fishing trips with friends, hunting adventures, or serene family time spent under star-filled skies. His hobbies were not just pastimes; they were expressions of love and connection, creating bonds that would withstand the test of time.
Above all, Matthew cherished the roles he played as husband, father, and grandfather, finding his proudest accomplishments in the warmth of his family. He leaves behind his beloved spouse, Nikki Yochum, and his adored daughters, Mattie (Jared) Brown, Jaiden (Jacob) Decker, and Makenna Yochum. The laughter of his grandchildren, Vlad, Ember, and Phoenix, brought an extra sparkle to his eyes, each smile a testament to the love he poured into their lives.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Marlene Yochum, along with his siblings Joel, Clair (Kyle), Mary (Chris), Vince (Amy), Beverly (Mason), Andy (Amanda), and Veronica, who will carry forward his indomitable spirit and zest for life. He is preceded in death by his father, Terry Yochum, and his brother, Jonas Yochum, both of whom he held close to his heart, even in their absence.
