Obituary

With hearts heavy and spirits mourning, we share the unexpected passing of Michael David Chappel, who left us far too soon on June 21, 2026, in Thatcher, Arizona. Born on December 24, 1983, in Painesville, Ohio, Michael’s life was a treasured gift—one that touched all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Michael’s journey was marked by kindness, steadfastness, and an abiding love for his family. As a son, he carried the legacy of both his late father, David Chappel, and mother, Lois Widner, who survives him and mourns the loss of her beloved son. Michael’s siblings, Tonya Chappel, Crystal Chappel, Ariana Lilly, and brothers David Chappel, and Steven Widner who remember him as a source of light—someone whose laughter filled any room and whose support was unwavering.

Sadly, Michael was preceded in death not only by his father but also by his brother, Junior Widner. Though gone, they are forever entwined in cherished memories—a testament to the bonds that time and loss cannot break.

Michael’s presence was a comforting constant across the years. He was a loving brother, a devoted son, and a steadfast friend. Family gatherings, holidays, and everyday moments alike are filled with stories and smiles thanks to his unique spirit. He embodied warmth, reaching out with kindness and reassurance, reminding all around him of the strength found in togetherness.

Michael’s departure was profoundly unexpected, coming long before his family and friends could ever fathom saying goodbye. As we cope with this immeasurable loss, his memory offers both solace and inspiration—a reminder of the importance of love, resilience, and treasuring each moment.

To honor Michael and celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held on August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Potter's House Christian Church, 402 West Main Street, Safford, Arizona. All who shared in his journey are welcome to gather, to reflect upon the beautiful impact he made, and to find comfort in one another’s company.

Though Michael David Chappel’s earthly journey has ended far too soon, his legacy lives on—in laughter, in shared stories, and in the unwavering love of those whose lives he graced. He will be remembered always, loved eternally, and missed immeasurably.
