Petra B. Aranda, beloved matriarch and fantastic homemaker, passed gently from this world on February 23, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on April 29, 1931, in Virden, New Mexico, the first breath of life given to her by parents Ramon Bejarano and Rumalda Burralo Bejarano.
Petra was one of ten children, growing up in a vibrant household filled with love, laughter, and the occasional squabble that only siblings could understand. Her feisty yet loving spirit became the cornerstone of her life—a mirror of the unconditional love she lavished upon her own family. On December 27, 1950, she wed the love of her life, Concepcion “Chono” Aranda, a bond that blossomed into a legacy rich with devotion and family.
Family was everything to Petra. It was within the embrace of her loved ones that she found joy, crafting memories that lingered long after they were made. Perhaps no moments were as cherished as the trips she took with her daughters and granddaughters to Memphis, where laughter and story-telling filled the air, each journey weaving tighter the threads of family bonds. To Petra, every instance of togetherness was a treasure, offering solace and strength in a world that often seemed too vast and impersonal.
Her love of the simple pleasures was reflected in her hobbies: from fishing trips in the shimmering lakes to immersing herself in the iconic films of John Wayne and the timeless tunes of Elvis Presley. These moments—rooted in nostalgia—brought her peace and happiness, encapsulating her joyful spirit.
Petra is survived by her cherished family: her loving son Chono (Anita) Aranda Jr., daughters Juanita (Donald) Torrio, Mary Jo Aranda, Susie (Jim) Henson, Dolores (David) Merino, Carmela (Richard) Ruiz, and sons Rick (Elena) Aranda and Reyes (Tabatha) Aranda. Extending her legacy are 31 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren—each carrying a piece of her heart within them. Completing the circle of her familial love is Tiny, her devoted little dog, always at her side.
Sadly, she is preceded in death by her beloved spouse Concepcion “Chono” Aranda, and daughter Mary Aranda, and siblings Pete Bejarano, and Danny Bejarano, along with the guiding lights of her parents, Ramon and Rumalda. Their memories resonate in her heart, as she now joins them in eternal rest.
As we gather to honor Petra’s remarkable life, a Rosary will be held at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Safford, Arizona, on March 9, 2026, at 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM. The final farewell will take place at Safford Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
In her passing, Petra leaves behind a narrative steeped in love, an indelible legacy that continues to radiate through her family. She will be greatly missed, but her memory will forever be woven into the very fabric of their lives.
