Raymond Hunter

August 15, 1920 — July 10, 2007

Raymond Owen Hunter 1920 ~ 2007 Raymond Owen Hunter left this world to be with his beloved wife of 65 years, Carol Moore, on July 10, 2007 Raymond was born on August 15, 1920 to Bertrum Owen and Jane Edith Hunter. From the time he was a child he loved the outdoors. This love of nature continued in his life and was passed on to his family by giving them many fun memories of camping, fishing, and hunting with the people who meant most to him. Ray graduated from Granite High School. He married Carol on January 9, 1942 and spent his first years of marriage serving in the Air Corp during World War II. During his time in the military he gained an appreciation for planes and mathematics. His family also grew, as his first child, Judy, was born while he was away. After the war, he made up for lost time with his family by personally building their first home. He became a master carpenter and loved building things. He came back from the war to work at Kennecott Copper, and retired in 1981 after 42 years. Ray was an active member of the LDS Church and held many positions. He had many fond memories of working with the Boy Scouts and the High Priests. He especially loved the fishing trips that he would attend with his friends from the Ward. For the last five years, Ray and Carol spent time together holding hands, laughing and watching their favorite game shows together as their bodies weakened. Even with the struggles of his health, Ray had an amazing sense of joy. He loved to be with his family and tease them. One of his favorite things was taking the grandchildren on wheelchair rides. He saw the humor in all situations and loved to laugh. Even as his body was not working, he could be seen giggling silently to himself or making others laugh. He is survived by all his loving family: Judy and Marvin, Ronald and Mary, Debbie and John, Douglas and Lee, Barbara; his 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. We would like to thank all of the many people who cared for Ray in the last years. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, where friends and family may visit from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment, Taylorsville Cemetery.
