Ricardo Manuel Villanueva, a man whose life was marked by dedication, intelligence, and an unwavering sense of responsibility, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, in Safford, Arizona. Born on March 15, 1925, in Baliwag, Bulacan, Philippines, Ricardo carried the values of hard work, education, and family close to his heart throughout his remarkable 101 years.
Ricardo’s journey was defined by his steadfast commitment to his family and his country. He served honorably in the Army for both the Philippines and the United States during the tumultuous years of 1942 to 1945, contributing to the efforts in World War II and the Philippine Revolution. His service spoke not only of courage but also of a deep love for his homeland and its freedom.
After his military service, Ricardo became a manager in sales at the family-owned drug store in Manila. Known for being smart, strict, and very persistent, he approached his career with the same diligence and responsibility that shaped every aspect of his life. He always ensured the job was done, embodying a spirit of perseverance that inspired those around him.
Ricardo cherished his role as a father above all else. He was particularly proud of his children and their achievements, honoring their hard work and good grades as tokens of growth and learning, which he valued immensely. As a father, he was responsible and nurturing, fostering an environment where education and self-improvement were central.
Beyond his professional and paternal roles, Ricardo found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially fishing, a pastime that allowed him moments of peace and reflection.
He was blessed with a loving family who survive him: his daughters Flordeliza (Robert) Palmer and Anita (Mike) Mitchell, and Concepcion (Rolando) Salvano, as well as Evangeline De Los Reyes, and son Jeff Walter Villanueva, and Lilly Villanueva daughter in-law. His legacy also lives through multiple grandchildren who carry forward his values and stories.
Ricardo’s heart was forever tied to his beloved wife, Corazon Villanueva, whom he married in the Philippines, sharing a partnership that was a cornerstone of his life until her passing. He also leaves behind the memory of his parents, Jose and Carmen Villanueva, son Reynaldo Villanueva and siblings During, Mario, Guillermo, Francisco, Deofilo, Hernando, Leonardo, Felipe, and sister Concordia Villanueva, and his son in-law Jing De Los Reyes, who have all preceded him in death.
Ricardo Manuel Villanueva was much more than the sum of his accomplishments; he was a man who treasured intellect, embraced responsibility, and above all, loved deeply. His life is a testament to the enduring strength of family, the importance of education, and the virtues of persistence and duty. Though he has passed on, his enduring spirit will forever inspire those who knew him and future generations touched by his legacy.
