Richard C. Eighmie, known to many as Dick, passed away on September 4, 2026, in Scottsdale, Arizona, just days before his 86th birthday. He was born on September 12, 1940, in Southbury, Connecticut, and lived a full and memorable life marked by adventure, hard work, devotion to family, and a spirited independence that made him unforgettable to those who knew him.
Dick married Fran Eighmie in August of 1972, beginning a chapter of life rooted in love and family. He was a man of energy and character, someone whose life was anything but ordinary. He raced stock cars, had a reputation for getting into trouble more often than not, and even did his own tattoos. Yet alongside that wild streak was a deeply devoted man whose love for those around him remained clear.
Among the great joys of his life was racing sled dogs in Connecticut and Alaska. Dick also especially enjoyed weekend stock car racing. In 1983, he made a bold move to Alaska, bringing 22 Siberian huskies with him. There, he worked at Napa in Kenai. Later, he moved to Safford, Arizona, where he continued his work at Napa until his retirement.
Dick was a very faithful, committed, and valued member of the Church of Christ that meets in Pima, whose companionship and support were an important part of his life. He leaves behind a legacy of stories, laughter, determination, and the unmistakable impression of a man who lived on his own terms.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation with family on September 10, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at McDougal Caldwell Funerals & Cremations, 112 E Main St, Safford, AZ 85546. A celebration of life will follow from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the same location.
