Richard J. Hines, a vibrant and unforgettable spirit, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, in Pima, Arizona. Born on August 24, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona, Richard lived a life full of laughter, friendship, and an unwavering love for those around him.
From a young age, Richard showed a remarkable zest for life. After earning his GED while in the United States Coast Guard in 1971, he bravely served his country from 1967 to 1971. During his service, he was honored with a medal for his exceptional skill as an expert pistol shooter—an achievement that spoke to his dedication and precision.
Richard’s career as a truck driver brought him many miles on the road, but it was his personality that truly left an indelible mark. Known for his loud, joyful presence, he made friends wherever he went, never shy about sharing a joke or a smile. His happiness was infectious, and those who knew him will remember a man who brightened the room just by being in it.
He carried with him many passions. A collector of marbles and tektites, Richard found joy in the small wonders of the world. He loved shooting, a pastime that echoed his disciplined military background, and he had a tender heart for animals, especially feral cats, whom he dedicated much effort to saving.
One of Richard’s most cherished memories, shared by all who knew him, was his love of taking everyone fishing during camping trips. These excursions were more than just outdoor adventures; they were moments filled with laughter, bonding, and the simple pleasure of being together in nature’s embrace. Those times reflected the warmth of Richard’s soul—a happy, joking person who delighted in making others smile.
Among his proudest accomplishments was marrying Jessie Jo Hines, the love of his life, in Las Vegas on May 14, 1983. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and companionship, a cornerstone of Richard’s life.
Richard leaves behind a large, loving family who will carry his memory in their hearts. His wife, Jessie Jo Hines, stands beside their children—Judy (Kevin) Dix, Robert (Mary) Hines, and Brandy (Jonathan) Burnett. His brother, Robert (Vonda) Hines, remains a close presence in their lives alongside nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who knew Richard’s stories and smiles well.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert Glenn Hines and Joellen Frances “Judy” Hines, whose legacy lives on in him.
Richard J. Hines was a man who lived loudly, loved deeply, and left a trail of joy and kindness. Through every fishing trip, every shared joke, and every act of kindness toward a stray cat, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. He will be profoundly missed, yet his joyful echo will forever resonate among family and friends.
