With hearts full of both sorrow and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Rodrigo Martin Salazar, who left this world on July 27, 2026, in Safford, Arizona. Born on March 17, 1964, in Naco, Sonora, Mexico, Rodrigo’s story is one of dedication, love, and unwavering devotion to his family, his work, and his faith.

Rodrigo’s journey began in the warmth of a loving family in Mexico, eventually leading him to a life filled with deep relationships and meaningful purpose. Education was one of his early milestones; he graduated from Animas High School in 1982, stepping into adulthood with the determination that would come to define every aspect of his life.

He dedicated an incredible 42 years to Freeport McMoran Inc., serving as a Health and Safety Specialist. Colleagues admired his passion for his work and the conscientious care he brought to ensuring the well-being of others. They often remember him saying "Show me your pre-shift". When Rodrigo started at Phelps Dodge, he loved their quote "Zero and Beyond". Rodrigo was deeply proud of his career and cherished the friendships, respect, and sense of accomplishment that blossomed from his countless hours of service.

Of all his achievements, none meant more to Rodrigo than the family he built and fiercely protected. On December 7, 1985, in Lordsburg, New Mexico, he married the love of his life, Eva Salazar—his Queen, as he so affectionately called her. For 40 years, theirs was a partnership characterized by deep affection, laughter, and a shared journey through all of life’s joys and challenges.

Family was at the heart of everything Rodrigo did. He and Eva were blessed with children who in turn enriched their lives with grandchildren—whom Rodrigo so dearly loved. He found special joy in taking his grandchildren on trips around town, to the movies, or out shopping, creating memories they will carry forever. Some of his happiest moments were the adventures he took with his family, especially those magical trips to Disneyland he held dear.

Rodrigo’s personality was a tapestry woven from deep devotion and a quiet, unmistakable warmth. To those who knew him, he could seem grumpy and serious—a man who often stayed behind the camera, capturing others’ joy while slipping quietly out of the frame. Yet, beneath that gruff exterior resided a loving soul with an infectious sense of humor. Rodrigo never missed an opportunity to share a funny joke, sometimes laughing the hardest at his own punchlines. He was always trying to bring laughter to those around him, displaying a gentle knack for making everyday moments lighter.

His devotion pronounced itself not only in his family and work but also in his enduring faith. Whether through daily routines or the strength he drew in challenging moments, Rodrigo’s spirituality provided a quiet foundation for the life he built and the love he gave.

Rodrigo is survived by his beloved wife, Eva Salazar; his son Martin Salazar and Martin’s spouse Cami; his daughter Crystal Maldonado and her spouse Joe; his son Marcos Salazar & Sarai. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, each holding close the countless memories made together.

Rodrigo is also remembered by his siblings: Roberto Carrillo and his spouse Maria, Victor Soltero and his spouse Linda, Ernesto Salazar, Pablo Salazar and his spouse Jackie, John Salazar and his spouse Leslie, Martha Salazar and his sister Rosa Chavez.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jesus C. Salazar; his mother, Emma Salazar; his father-in-law, Antonio Vigil; his sisters Maria Evelia Sotero and Maria Parmaley; and his brother Jose Salazar.

A true fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Rodrigo found joy in cheering them on, sharing in moments of excitement with family and friends. Sports, laughter, and togetherness were constants in his home—threads binding the tapestry of everyday life.

Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to a viewing on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McDougal Caldwell Funerals & Cremation in Safford. Following the next day Friday, August 7, 2026, at St. Rose of Lima Parish Church the Eulogy will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Rodrigo’s life will be honored in his final act of devotion with burial at Safford Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. that same day. Friends, family and all, are welcome to gather at the hall at St. Rose of Lima church after the burial to celebrate Rodrigo Martin's life.

Rodrigo Martin Salazar lived a life marked by love, commitment, and a gentle, ever-present humor. Though he may no longer walk among us, his legacy will live on in the laughter, kindness, and steadfast love he leaves behind. His memory is a comfort and a blessing to everyone who had the privilege to know and love him.
