Santiago Thomas Villescas Jr., lovingly known to many as Jimmy, departed this world on July 25, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 82. Born on August 6, 1943, in Morenci, Arizona, Jimmy’s journey was one grounded in family, shaped by deep connections to place, tradition, and the enduring call of the great outdoors.

From the red-dusted streets of Clifton, Santiago's story began in a home woven with love by his parents, Santiago Thomas Villescas and Carmen Gutierrez Villescas. As he grew, he became a cherished brother to Romie, Gilbert, and Terri, and throughout his life, he carried the memory of his siblings—Tomas “Wedo,” Pat, Joey, and Richard—with tenderness and pride.

After answering the call to service and completing his enlistment, Santiago’s heart returned home, where it found its counterpart in Guadalupe Trujillo. Their union, formally celebrated on February 19, 1966, marked the start of a partnership built on devotion, adventure, and shared dreams. Together they navigated decades of life’s joys and storms, raising their family and laying the foundation for future generations.

A man whose hands were as skilled at work as they were gentle with loved ones, Santiago embraced life’s simple joys. Whether pursuing the quiet patience required for hunting, the meditative solitude of fishing, or the boundless freedom of riding his motorcycle across desert and mountain vistas, he drew strength and peace from Arizona’s landscapes. These passions were more than hobbies—they were rituals, binding him to the rhythms of nature and the enduring spirit of those who came before him.

His legacy lives forward through those he leaves behind: daughters Stephanie (Fu) Garcia, Sheila Villescas, and Marcia Loya, and his siblings Romie (Patty), Gilbert, and Terri Villescas along with grandchildren John, Destiny, Belinda, Timothy, Sarah, Jamie, Stevie, Paula, Damiana, Jessica, Crystal, Damiene, Jayda, and Hayleigh, great grandchildren Alyx, Serenity, Stephen, Anthony, Jerameyah, Emareyah, Ayva, Estrella, Penelope, Rosalyna, Cade, Cheyenne, Grayson, and Simea, and numerous nieces and nephews. The loss of Guadalupe, his beloved spouse, weighs heavy, as does the absence of his son Santiago “Chago” Villescas and cherished grandson Stephen Quick, who preceded him in passing. Yet, Santiago found comfort in the love and resilience of his family, a testament to the bonds he cultivated throughout his life—bonds that hold strong even in sorrow.

Santiago’s presence was felt at countless family gatherings, in laughter echoing around a campfire and in stories shared during long evenings. His memory endures in the shared remembrance of triumphs and heartaches, in the warmth of his embrace, and in the steadfast example he set for all who knew him.

To honor Santiago Thomas Villescas Jr., family and friends are invited to gather at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 329 Chase Creek Street, Clifton, AZ 85533, on August 8, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m., followed by the Rosary from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and Mass from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Final committal will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Copper Verde Lane, Clifton, AZ, beginning at 12:00 p.m.

Though the world is quieter for his absence, the echoes of Jimmy’s laughter, grit, and passion will ring on in the hearts of those privileged to have walked beside him. His legacy is the love he fostered, the traditions he carried, and the enduring sense of belonging he gave to all who called him family or friend.
