Shirley Marie Randall

October 24, 1946 — September 23, 2025

Clifton, Arizona

Shirley was born on October 24, 1946 in Morenci, Arizona, to Buck and Ruth Quinn. She and her twin sister, Sharon, were the fourth and fifth of seven children born to Buck and Ruth. The Quinn children grew up in Duncan. Shirley often told her grandchildren stories about her happy childhood with her large extended family growing up in small town Duncan.

Shirley had her first job as a teenager, waiting tables in her dad’s cafe in Duncan. When she was 16, she met the love of her life, Jerald “Butch” Randall. They were married on leap day, February 29, 1964, when Shirley was 17 years old. Their daughter, Karen was born the next year in 1965, followed by Sandra, a year and four days later, in August 1966. Robert followed in January of 1969 and Kimberly completed the family in April of 1971. The family lived in Safford early on, later moving back to Clifton. Shirley went to work at Phelps Dodge as a laborer in the 1970s. It was then that the family moved to Verde Lee, where they had more room for their large family. It was here that she and her husband Jerald would live out the remainder of their lives. Shirley was seriously burned while working in the smelter in the late 70s and afterward only worked a short time before she quit that job and stayed home for a few years. In 1985, Shirley took a job as a cook at El Charro in Clifton and then at PJs, where she cooked and waitressed until 1988.

Shirley’s first grandchild, Ashley, was born in 1989. This started Shirley’s next career, and undoubtedly the one she was most proud of, caring for her grandchildren. Shirley loved and spoiled her grandchildren and then great grandchildren, the first group calling her Granny, and the second wave calling her Ninny. Shirley also cared for neighborhood children and treated them just as she would her own. Her home was always filled with children, love and laughter.

Aside from raising their children, Shirley and Butch always had a love for animals. Over the years there were countless dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, and chickens that found their forever homes within the family, and Shirley loved them all. She instilled that love in her children, who grew up with the same love and respect for animals.

As a homemaker, she was always baking, canning, crafting with the children, or making meals for whoever may be coming for dinner on a given evening. She came a long way from the girl who when she got married told people she couldn’t make toast. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed all types of cooking. In the 1990’s the Quinn family began having annual reunions and she and her sisters planned elaborate meals for the entire weekend event. She looked forward to those trips and being able to visit with the extended family while feeding them delicious meals.

Through the years her family grew larger and her home filled with more and more love. She took great pride in watching her children and grandchildren grow, graduate, and become successful adults with their own families. Even as the family grew, everyone always found their way home to Granny and Papa’s house for family get-togethers.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father Buck (1969), her mother Evelyn (1991), Her brother Johnny (1991), her sister Carol (2002), her twin sister Sharon (2008), her brother George (2012), her sister Lynda (2020), her brother Robert (2021), and lastly, her husband of 59 years, Jerald (2023). She is survived by her children; Karen Robledo, Sandra Lundeen (Dale), Robert Randall (Diosdada), Kimberly Grigsby (Jeffery), and 11 grandchildren; Tyler Lundeen (Krista), Ashley Crandell (Mark), Caitlin Young, Shelby Hernandez (Pedro), Michael Lopez (Andrea), Chelsea Olson (Nick), Stephanie Lopez (Austin), Kyra Grigsby, Emily Lockridge (Timothy), RJ Randall, and Nayumi Randall. She also had 20 great grandchildren, as well as three great-great grandchildren.

After being diagnosed with cancer in late August of 2025, she died peacefully in her home in the early morning hours of September 23, 2025 with family by her side.
