Steven Craig James, born on July 17, 1948, in Los Angeles, California, passed away on July 2, 2025, in Pima, Arizona, leaving behind a legacy enriched with love, dedication, and deep familial bonds. A proud member of the United States Air Force, Steven served as SGT-E4 from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1970. His military service was a significant source of pride, shaping him into the steadfast individual that he became.
After completing his education at El Cajon High and El Captain High in the Class of 1966, Steven embraced a fulfilling career as an iron worker with Structural Steel Local #229, where he earned the respect and admiration of his peers. His work ethic was matched only by his passion for flying, hunting, boating, engaging in computer work, and enjoying family outings—each hobby reflecting his adventurous spirit and love for life.
In 1971, Steven married his beloved wife, Colette Gail Wimberley-James, in La Mesa, California. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with laughter and warmth, welcoming three sons who brought them immense joy: Randy Craig James, Justin Curtis James, and Michael Kenneth James. Steven often spoke of his family as his greatest accomplishment, and his pride for his children was evident in every conversation. He also cherished the companionship of his two cats, Dixie Cup and Mellow Yellow, who brought additional happiness to his life.
Steven is remembered fondly by his brothers, Terrance Hawkins and Buddy Hawkins, who stand by the legacy of love and commitment that he exemplified throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Randolph James, and his mother, Terrence Jane Carmine, who undoubtedly guided him in spirit throughout his journey.
